The Ground Rules

As you've probably seen, the conversations within Filmfodder Forums are respectful, interesting and engaging. We all try to keep the bar set high because, really, no one enjoys the nonsense and white noise that litter other forums. But every once in a while something goes haywire, and that's why I have a few rules:

#1. You do not talk about fight club ...

Crap. Sorry. Wrong list.

Rule #1. Be nice -- Just like your mother taught you. Be nice to each other. Even if someone REALLY gets on your nerves, resist the urge to lash out. If you have a problem with someone and you simply cannot deal with this person one second more, drop me a private message and I can get involved in the process.

Rule #2. Don't engage in the dumb stuff -- By "dumb stuff" I mean the mindless, borderline libelous discussions that go on in so many corners of the Web. No one here particularly cares about who is dating whom. Gossipy stuff has its place, but that place isn't here.

Rule #3. Do your homework -- If you're new and you have a question or a hot topic, do us all a favor and read through a few posts to see if your question/topic has already popped up. I understand that many times the topics move so quickly that it's not always easy to dig up old information. All I ask is that you make a good-faith effort before unleashing your post.

Rule #4. Do not, under any circumstances, write in all caps. A word here or there is fine, but I absolutely abhor posts that LOOK LIKE THIS AND GO ON AND ON FOR PAGES AND YET THE PERSON WRITING IT SEEMS TO NOT NOTICE THAT THEIR CAPS LOCK IS STUCK. Thank you.

Rule #5. Respect copyright. Don't steal other people's stuff and post it here. Also, please try to avoid posting full articles, full reviews, etc. This, believe it or not, is copyright infringement. The absolute best course of action is to post a link to an article, picture, video, etc. The person/people who created the original material deserve the notoriety and the Web traffic, so if you've got something cool to show everyone, post the link.

That's it for now. I'll be adding to this list as additional things pop up. If you have questions or concerns, feel free to hit me with a private message.

Thanks!
