I find myself thinking about Battlestar Galactica far too often, but I just find the show so damn fascinating. So far, I'm incredibly impressed with the forethought and structure: Season 1 was a cat-and-mouse game that had the humans united in a common struggle to survive; Season 2 finds a bit more saftey, but now the divisive nature of humanity starts to show up. Religion, politics, love, hate -- it's all being played out brilliantly.

And on top of that, how friggin cool is Starbuck?

Dude, I get off on this show from the first moment the weirdo entry music starts till the last scene ends. I watch this show with the same enthusiasm I did the first iteration back in the 70's.

Galactica is the ONLY thing worth watching these days. Solid, believeable plot with episodes that answer questions early...not requiring the viewer to hang around until the next season to get answers (read that "cylon penetration team gets past flak field").

The president is getting a little annoying though. I'm with Adama on the "no body's going to believe this" aspect of her sudden religious notariety. Maybe its the actress. She's done the self-sacrificing matronly thing before (Independence Day??) which irritated me. Only thing worse would be having Kate Mulgrew roll thru doing her best Katherine Hepburn impression (I want the Aquitaine Henry!!) ala Capt. Janeway, throwing her presidential weight around.

I digress. This show rules, if I haven't made that clear enough...

LOL -- Mulgrew really was a poor woman's Hepburn!

I loved the Caprica segment. I even loved the ridiculous Pyramid match between Starbuck and her momentary love interest (and of COURSE Starbuck could have gone pro ... what can't she do?)

The only downside of Galactica is that it's a short season. Just imagine what they could do with 22 episodes? Yeah, I know -- maybe they'd lose the luster. But I can dream, right?

Yeah I'm down with you on that.

But consider this. Galactica is a story with what we hope will be an ending: finding Earth. So, if they find Earth in as few episodes as two season, then I'm fine with that. Especially if the ending is justifiable and believeable within the context of the story line. (wouldn't it be a sick twist if it turns out the 13th colony IS the cylons? Whoa....)

I lived in merry ole England for a few years. A vast majority of their tv shows, such as Red Dwarf, would only go for six episodes a season, then that was it. You'd have to wait a year just to see six episodes! They told a lot of story in that time tho'. So, i'm fine with short seasons on shows (six is a little too short however.) So, if they can get it done and do it well in only a few seasons...its cool with me.

Can you sum up what happened last week? I missed it due to a case of having to be away that week.

Cylons on earth ... yup, that would work! I'm not well versed in the show's background mythology, but I seem to remember something where the Cylons disappeared for 40 years before returning. Why not wipe out the 13th colony before setting back for the other 12? Seems like a slick tactical manuever to me.

As for a recap ... I'm a little rusty, but here goes:

Starbuck, Helo and Boomer (CYLON Boomer that is) make it back to the fleet. But the fleet isn't the fleet anymore because 24 ships (something like that), broke off to join the President on her Mission to Kobol. So, as it stands, there are two groups of survivors -- the Kobol contingent and the Galactica contingent (Galactica is located somewhere beyond Kobol; I have no idea where, but it doesn't appear to be important to the story).

So anyway, when Starbuck makes her triumphant return -- with the Arrow of Apollo in tow -- the real-life Apollo expresses his excitement by kissing Starbuck. Starbuck kisses back. Love and joy abound ... for about 3 seconds. That's when Apollo sees Boomer round the corner. And like a good son, he promptly puts a gun into the face of the Cylon (well, the Cylon *model*) that plugged his Daddy full of bullets. A standoff ensues -- Apollo points a gun at Boomer, Helo points a gun at Apollo, Starbuck looks very concerned. Eventually, the president tells a couple of cronies to chuck Boomer out the airlock, but as they're dragging her away she screams out that she knows how to find the Tomb of Athena (or Apollo, or Hephaestus -- like I said, I'm rusty). This piques the President's curiosity, so she spares Boomer's life ... for the moment.

Eventually, the Kobol contingent makes its way down to the surface of Kobol, where they're immediately ambushed by the big metal Cylons. A battle ensues and the President's spiritual advisor (that woman who wears the funky scarf and seems to know WAY too much about those "scriptures") gets blown to bits by a land mine (Heather Mills McCartney is gonna be pissed!). I guess the scriptures didn't say anything about hidden explosives. Pity.

During the firefight, Boomer Cylon breaks off from the group and appears to be making her way toward a very big gun. Apollo runs after her and attempts to thwart what he perceives to be an oncoming Boomer attack, but Boomer Cylon tosses Apollo aside and uses her newfound Big Gun to destroy the last of the metal Cylon ambushers. Apollo is duly impressed.

There isn't a whole lot of action on the Galactica front. Much of the episode deals with Adama's consternation over the President's Kobol crusade (and his son's "betrayal"). Eventually, he has a heart-to-heart conversation with Dee and she lays the smack down on him, telling him that this two-groups nonsense is a bunch of crap; someone needs to be the grown-up and keep everyone together. So at the very end of the episode, Adama marches into the command area and announces that they're going to Kobol. "This ends now," he says. I think. Whatever he says, it's very succinct and meaningful and full of gravitas.

And that's all I can remember. Hope that helps!

I'm more into this season than last.

Hah, Kate Mulgrew is in a one woman play where she plays Katherine Hepburn!

No kidding. Must be an easy job, playing herself. God I hope they never remake "A Lion in Winter" and cast her to play eleanor of aquitaine. I'd boycott it strictly on principle!

You all must be below the age of thirty to think this show is worth watching. Anyone with any sense can easily see the show is sucking hind ti. Talk about wasting time, do yourselves a favor and stop wasting your time by watching the show. Pick up a book, play a game, beat your cat or bang your wife.

I see.

Perhaps we should spend our time commenting on shows we don't like.

Or maybe we could tell other people what to do in a forum.

Yeah. Both of those sound like fantastic ways to "waste time."

If you don't like it, don't post. It's very simple.

Actually, those aren't my words. It was a post I'm Sparticus was nice enough to share with Lost fans in the Lost forum. I copied his post and pasted it in here. I know, its not very mature of me to do so, but I thought I'd return the favor.
