It's official. I'm a sap. I thought this was a genuinely sweet episode. Who thought that would ever happen? We'v had touching episodes, we've had emotional episodes, but a sweet X-file? Who knew?
HOWEVER, with the series finale coming next week, let's turn to that for a moment. I just watched the preview and I swear i saw Krycek. Oh noooooo. |

This week's episode even tied in with the past 9 years.
However, it seems like the X-files teams have gathered plenty of REAL evidence over the years, such that Oliver/Anthony wasn't needed as their "proof." |

quote: My thoughts almost exactly. I found myself saying, "Oh, how sweet." But it really was. And I LOVE the new Doggett--and the growing affection with Reyes. MAN, we are SO going to miss these characters, aren't we? :-( quote: I did too. Wonder if it was a flashback... Should be an exciting one! Till next week! X-roads PS--HI, everyone! Though I post SOOOO seldom, I still think about you all! |

I'll watch the ep tomorrow. Alias is on at the same time. I know, sacrilege.

Peg: You're right. The evidence always disappears, which makes it even better to see Scully finally fed up with all the nonsense. After all these years, she deserves a moment of frustration, and it was nice to see the writers give it to her.

Some stuff that hasn't disappeared:
1. Tooms 2. Mulder, Doggett, and Billy Miles coming back from the dead 3. Field Trip - agents pulled out of ground and saved by AD Skinner and crew 4. The mountain archives where all the DNA files are of zillions of people 5. All the people turned to Krispy Kritters I know I could think of a LOT more. (As time went along, the X-Files teams should have considered carrying small movie cameras to record their escapades.) Now, supposes Oliver/Anthony had been able to display his "powers" for the larger world. I don't see how that would cause anyone to re-write physics books, as the good doctor so boldly proclaimed. If it wasn't at least moved to a safer location I'd be surprised. quote: Krispy Kritters are no more evidence than a bowl of spaghetti. quote: The dear doctor had a video of Anthony and what happened to that? The die was cast in the pilot - all the evidence M & S had in that ep went up in flames. Where is the digital tape that everyone kicked around? Who dragged the lake for the CD that CSM tossed there? Where are the backup files when Mulder's office was burned? And on, and on ... |

I never would have believed it, but I LOVED this episode! After the teaser, and when I saw Vince's name as the writer, I had a sneaking suspicion that I was going to like it. So many Vince lines- and what about that fake out with the beer? So funny. And to top it off, it had a beginning, a middle, and an end! Also, just about everything was explained. (except how Anthony had the power to begin with and how Scully could mention the power of love and still remain silent about her son...) But at least it wasn't filled with deliberate vagueness and cliched XFiles phrases. (there were a few, but it was more nostalgic than annoying-at least to me) I think Vince had a warm feeling in his heart and a smile on his face when he wrote this.
As for the previews, we watched them twice-once in slo-mo. Definitely saw Krycek, but I couldn't tell if it was a flashback or not. I also think I saw Marita Covarrubias with a new hair-do and maybe Gibson. I am very glad that I got to love one more XFiles beore the end. Thank you St. Vince! |

Cass, I second your accolades for Vince. He did an excellent job with this episode. It was one of the most satisfying I can remember from recent seasons, and it didn't contain the gaping plot holes that have marked much of the material we've seen in all seasons.
In a way I'm disappointed it's ending because I feel Doggett is coming into his own as a character (perhaps that's an intentional move on the writers' parts to make us interested in future Doggett movie endeavors?). |

Has there been any talk anywhere of a spinoff with Reyes/Doggett - sort of an X-Files Jr.... X-Files lite?

Red: I haven't heard anything along those lines, and judging by a feature I just read in "TV Guide" it sounds like Robert Patrick and Anabeth Gish are both seeking out other projects.
I think a spin-off would be a mistake right now. The show needs a cooling-off period (a long one of maybe 5 years) before it could reappear in a different form. I'd prefer to see a strong movie franchise emerge. The creative forces behind the X-files -- as frustrating as they can be -- are strong. There are some exceptionally talented people who have contributed to this show and I can only imagine what they could do with motion-picture resources. |

Sorry I haven't been posting.
My yearly allergies have turned me into a zombie - can barely keep my eyelids open. Did watch the ep, but dozed through most of it. No offense to the ep, it was just me. Will watch it again later in the week, when I'm hopefully more awake. |

x-ed- having just woken up from a nap, I know what you mean. Allergies make me feel drugged without the drugs. Hope yours pass soon.
Trust- I agree about Doggett. He seems more open to alternative explanations, yet retains an investigator's thoroughness and attention to detail. I especially like his questions lately: "Why the Brady Bunch? Why not the Partridge Family?" These inevitably lead to something important in the case. I guess they couldn't do this earlier on because it would have made him seem too much like Mulder. He has become very interesting to watch. oh well. |

Cassandra, it's not a good "drugged" either. Not that there is a good "drugged". We need some rain here. Otherwise, I should be okay by the end of the month.
Here's hoping I can stay awake for Star Wars tomorrow night. Saw Spiderman on the weekend and had a hard time staying functional for it. At least it was loud. |

Anyone read the article in next week's TV Guide? CC continues to astound me with his ego-not only does he consider the recent years of XFiles as "still really good", but he thinks XFiles fans are "dissatisfied by nature." I guess it should come as no surprise-had he been a more reflective and thoughtful person, we probably would have had more consistency and a long-range plan full of twists and turns, rather than just twists and turns.

Cass: I read the article and noticed the same quote. My feeling is that Carter, around the time of the movie, got caught up in the idea of building a series of franchises. It seems to be a classic flaw for executive producers -- one success isn't enough. What he failed to realize was that he caught lightning in a bottle with the "X-files" and while it certainly reached a point where it could function on its own, it still needed to be properly tended to. Rushing off to do "Millennium" and "Harsh Realm" taxed Carter's ability as a storyteller, and his bread-and-butter show, the "X-files," suffered for it.
It's a shame, but hopefully some future executive producer can learn from it. Let the ego go. Concern yourself with one great legacy. [This message has been edited by trustno1 (edited 05-15-2002).] [This message has been edited by trustno1 (edited 05-15-2002).] |

quote: Full agreement. It takes a certain level of ego and confidence to be successfull in a world like screenwriting. However, that level is just below the level of super-ego and over-confidence. Doesn't take much to go over the top and spoil it all. |

I can only imagine the lure of super ego that must accompany success as an executive producer. I mean, if you sit back and consider that the creator of a successful show is basically someone who came up with an idea so big and so impressive that millions of viewers love it, it's easy to see how that exec producer could then believe he or she is capable of doing the same thing over and over again. Add in the cast, crew, and ardent admirers and you've got a recipe for a very big head.
But it's a shame because, ultimately, the work suffers -- and the work is what got that person to their lofty position to begin with. Until recently the one person I had faith in as an exec producer was "Buffy" creator Joss Whedon, but now news is surfacing that his latest project -- the sci-fi "western" "Firefly" -- could be in trouble. It'd be a damn shame if Whedon overextends himself to the point of depleting his established shows ("Buffy" and "Angel"). It looks like Joss could be heading down the same road, and again, that's a shame. |
