The 1998 'X-Files' feature grossed $187 million worldwide.

Duchovny

Anderson

The long-awaited second "X-Files" film is finally a go, with 20th Century Fox setting a July 25, 2008 release date.
Untitled project reunites "X-Files" creator Chris Carter will thesps David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, who will reprise their signature roles as FBI agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully.

Carter begins lensing in December in Vancouver from a script he co-wrote with Frank Spotnitz, a veteran scribe of the long-running "X-Files" television series, which became a worldwide hit during its 1993-2002 run on the Fox network. Spotnitz also co-wrote with Carter the screenplay for 1998 feature "X-Files." Carter and Spotnitz will also serve as producers.

Studio is keeping the film's logline under wraps, but stressed the pic is a stand-alone story and supernatural thriller that takes the complicated relationship between Mulder and Scully in new directions.

As of now, there are only two other titles skedded for July 25, both comedies. Sony unspools Will Ferrell-John C. Reilly starrer "Step Brothers," directed by Adam McKay, while MGM has bows untitled Ice Cube family laffer.

Plan to bring the "X-Files" sequel to the bigscreen was waylaid when Chris Carter brought a 2005 lawsuit against Fox over how the "X-Files" syndication profits were divvied up. Suit was later settled.

Earlier this year, the issue seemed to have been resolved, with Duchovny and Anderson both indicating that the film was finally moving forward.

Released in 1998, feature film "The X-Files" grossed $187 million worldwide, including a domestic haul of $83.9 million and an international cume of more than $103 million.

Hey, Xed, I figured the Losties would be happier if we continued our old friends chat over here. Though their board is pretty dead right now, too.

I haven't posted about the resurrection of the movie talk because it just doesn't move me any more. A new XF movie will no longer sell itself to me on that basis, and I expect very few people like that are left. It will have to sell itself to me as a good movie, or at least a good scifi/action genre piece, in order to get my movie dollar.

One has to wonder if there will be any blowback for projects like this from the writers' strike. It's at least theoretically possible that the profitability of a movie like this, derivative of a TV show, will be altered by whatever new final agreements are struck as an outcome to the writers' bargaining.

I wonder if this will turn out to be a theatrical release, or a straight to DVD release?

There's so much water under the bridge, far as I'm concerned, and Carter proved to less able to deliver his pay-offs than anyone expected, I've got to wonder where they're expecting an audience large enough to pay money to see the X-Files on the big screen?

At this point, I'm more interested in "Breaking Bad", Vince Gilligan's new TV project. This isn't something I'd be inclined to watch, based on what I've seen so far about it, but OTOH, it is Vince Gilligan. I'll invest at least the hour in the pilot in January to take a flyer on Vince.

Gosh. I heard they were going to do the film but I didn't keep up. I thought they were still in post-production. Then I saw a poster for the film on my way home from work showing the release date of July 25! I guess I should change my screen name to head-in-the-sand.

I had a feeling I might see a few postings here with the new movie coming out, but I never expected to see govtlawyer! I always wondered how govtjr's wedding went! cassandra jr. is (almost) a college graduate-just 3 more credits to finish this summer. Getting a BA in Drama, but she is now interested in teaching after coming to visit me at my school in June. Almost all of her friends have moved back in with their parents, but she is staying where she is-working and acting and paying rent.
I have mixed feelings about the movie. Curious, but also tempted to just wait for the DVD, unless it gets really good reviews. I don't go out to the movies very often- it's so expensive and there is always something that annoys me-rude people or disappointment with the sound or picture quality.
Even if the movie is not great, I will be glad if its release brings people back here for a reunion. This was the first year that I didn't check in for Trust's and the forum's birthday in January- and it was a milestone for this group too-10 years!
xed-out- thanks for keeping it going. Now that I am not totally exhausted by work, I have no excuse-for the summer at least! Hope everyone is well.
love, cassandra

I guess we just keep coming back like old pennies...and our children are no longer children --- except for Trust's that is. Yep, 2 years of marriage for govt jr., working at a gaming company, and now taking two more art classes to bolster what she already has through her degree. Her wedding turned out to be really wonderful---everything came together so well, it was a great occasion.

Around here, we can get into a Tuesday night deal for $5 at the theatre or else go to a matinee. So, I'm planning to see the movie on the Big Screen.

I had an X-files moment yesterday. Drove away from the house on a little shopping excursion, went about 1/2 mile and the car suddenly died--just died---and wouldn't restart. Before calling AAA, I got out and spray painted a big X on the pavement. Today, the car repair place claims it's the ignition coil, but I'm thinking aliens...

Xyon...reporting for duty.

Cable guy was installing a box on the pole yesterday night, then this morning I accidentally stumbled onto my old OnTap login info.

I have been watching some early episodes this week, trying to get in the old XFiles mood. I may break down and decide to go to a matinee on Friday after all. It just doesn't feel right not to go.
govtlawyer-hope your car is OK, although it made a great anecdote, especially the spray painted X-did you lose time? around 10 minutes?
I had my own forum related flashback tonight. One of my summer projects is to go through my boxes of photos that I haven't put in albums yet, and I came across a photo of me and Argo from 2004. (I was chaperoning cassandra jr's HS theatre trip) It was strange coming across it while I was watching season 2.

I thought I might see someone post on opening day. I actually went to the first showing of the day-just like in June 1998. I also wanted to check out this new theater. The theater was much better than the movie-sorry to say. Will wait to see if anyone else comments, but if you are on the fence I would not recommend seeing it. I really wanted to believe Frowner
