I am wondering now if there are a lot of double bluffs going on.

1. Smokey clearly dissappeared before Alex turned up. I am not sure Alex is Smokey.

2. Could there be a second phenomenum which takes the form of people which is separate from Smokey. I am thinking this second phenomenum is Christian and Alex.

3. Taking my second point in mind, could Locke also be this phenomenum (at least the resurrected god). Since we know time travel is at play, has Locke been a version of Locke from different time lines throughout the show. Remember the pilot with Locke and the orange, that was really wierd and just did not seem to fit. Also Locke at many points seemed to flit between all knowing (obilocke) and a complete blundering idiot. Have we been watching different Lockes from different time lines.

4. I feel there are conflicting forces on the Island relating to the temple, i.e. Good vs Evil, what we perceive to be island weirdness could infact be manifestations from two conflicting forces trying to mould different outcomes.

5. Are there infact two temples, an initial underground temple, and another built later.

6. The symbols and pictures in the tunnels, and at the temple wall seem to be Egyptian or at least early civilisation.

7. Why does Ben's house just happen to have been built next to an opening to a temple style tunnel. Does this mean Dharma always knew about the temple, and if so which of the initial Dharmaites knew of it's existence.

I must admit this episode threw a huge curveball. I am even more confused than before. Add to all this who is Jacob, and is he the same thing as Alex, and Christian?

I am now thinking maybe Smokey is a more ancient phenomenum to Jacob.

Bens encounter with Smokey is very similar to Eko's... but his brother's 'ghost' appeared before Smokey did... where as Ben's ghost of Alex appeared after. So in conclusion we still don't know. I think the 'ghost' are time travel related much like Walt, Christian and Jacob.

The symbols looks similar to those found by the donkey wheel, but different than the hatch hierglyphs (unless I'm wrong)

It would appear we haven't actually seen the temple... we've seen the wall and the under the temple. I betting a shinny quarter that statue of Jacob or some weird shrine is at the actual temple.
