I was watching I think the first episode of Lost and right after the insident where they first had the encounter with the "Security Guard" (Or in Locke's words The Eye Of The Island), and then after Jack's flashback on the plane, it shows a camera shot of Jack's head, but if you listen in the backround you hear someone say,
"That sound that it made, I keep thinking that there was something really familiar about it." It sounds like Rose said it, but I'm not sure. Anyone who has the first season DVD and is willing to watch it again, give me your thoughts. |

I remember reading someone saying Rose likened it to a noise she heard in Manhatten. Or something.

It was Rose referring to noise she heard in the Bronx.

I just watched it and that is exactly what she said. Someone then said to her, "Where are you from?" and she answered "The Bronx." She did not make an association between the sound and her living in the Bronx. And yes, it did sound like Rose and you could see a black woman in the background speaking. |

go to the thread, "rose knows the sound",
as this was all discussed in depth in 2005 for quite a long time. |

this is a serious protocol question: When we do discuss it in the future do we go back and discuss it under the "rose knows the sound" thread or do we discuss it in a new thread? |

I am CERTAINLY not the one to discuss protocol, as I have none, but it seems that if any thread gets past the initial old time to newbie flames and gathers momentum with more than say, seven? or eight? non-flame posts, it has reached the point of self sufficiency and all past threads on the same subject are now ignored and the new thread rules the day. |

It seems to me that if someone starts a new thread they get flamed pretty good, for not doing enough "research" or "homework" if the subject was discussed before. I've seen some really OLD threads resurrected from waaay back. Lord only knows how they were found! Seems more sensible to start a new one, because going back so far through old material may not even be relative to new information given on the show. Why rewarm old theories if there are exciting new ones to fire up? |

I could argue that if you use the old thread, newbies and those of us with moderate-to-severe memory loss can check to see what's already been discussed. Also, it's interesting to see how new information proves/disproves old theories. On the other hand, most people probably won't read past the most recent page of a thread. |

Hurling, you make a very good point there. I have found it a good way to get a handle on the history and reasons behind a certain train of thought. And some of those threads have MANY pages! If I have to miss a few days, it takes a lot of time to "catch up". Sometimes it is amazing to see a thread resurrected from 2005, and wonder about the validity of it, though. Well, if the shoe fits... OK. I think it just depends on how relative the new stuff is to the past thread. |
