I think Walt and Michael both got of the island. Michael is the key for Jack, but is now dead.
The newspaper article that Jack tore out has been translated partially and talks of a man who hung himself and left behind a teenage boy .. WALT!. The neighbourhood that Jack was in, seemed like a black neighbourhood and the minister was also black. Jack clearly wants to get back to the island, i think for some reason Jack beleives that Michael and Walt know how to get back. Maybe because they got off.... When Jack was asked friend or family, he said no. Could be because of what Michael did - killed Libby and A.L and delivered them to the Others. SPOILER WARNING BELOW.... We have also heard that season 4 will include a lot of flash forwards and will answer Walts rapid aging. Obvious point could be that the flash forwards cover Walt of the island in the future - hence he is all grown up. Also Michael is likely to be back as a season regular. Thoughts..... |

My thoughts are....
I am still convinced it's Ben in the coffin. Michael was from New York. I saw nothing in that crumpled scrap of newspaper article someone posted that mentioned a teenage son. |

I already posted that here:
Who is in the coffin? I colored my text white because the text of the obit was not in the show - it was revealed on a spoiler site; hence, it is considered a spoiler and not necessarily accurate. You should really put SPOILER in your thread title. Also, clothing is hung, but people are hanged. |

I think that Ben sent Michael and Walt straight to the frigate that Naomi came from for "rescue". I think that maybe Ben hoped that Michael and Walt's boat would be looked at as hostile and be fired upon. That area of the south pacific is unprotected and is known to be frequented by pirates. Ben gave them specific coordinates because he and the others knew the frigate was there. For better or worse Michael and Walt would be found.

That's not entirely accurate hurling. I met a man once in Vacaville who . . . |

I know that Michael was from NY which is exactly why he wouldn't be living there. If he did get off the island with Walt he most likely had to change his identity or else the media would be on him immediately. I'm sure he made a deal to change his identity and never discuss the island. Maybe he contacted Jack when he eventually was rescued because his identity is intact and I think his "hero" status is more involved than just saving the woman on the bridge.Imagine how Michael would feel, he would have to continue his new life as an imposter because the world would be horrified to learn that he knew that the Losties were alive on the island with madmen and monsters and did nothing to help them, let alone the fact that he killed two people. His choice ended up being worse than death. My vote is that it is Michael in the coffin.

Dark UFO has two polls up on his Spoiler site. One for Who is in the coffin and the other for Who will die in the season 4 finale. He already knows who in both cases but is withholding the information at this time. Interesting.
I will spoilerize the lists here: Who is in the coffin: Ben Sayid Desmond Jacob Sawyer Locke Alpert Who will die in the finale: Desmond Locke Sawyer Michael Jin Bernard Juliet there you have it. |

Funny to re-read my year old post on michael. i think I had some things right, I still think he is in the coffin. Although I'm not sure how he made it back to the U.S.at this point. If he did make it back i guess he could remain under his new identity and continue to protect Walt. We shall see.

Haven't been around for a while, but
Wow, didn't see Locke in coffin coming. SO does this have to do with Richard being disappointed with Locke's choices as a child. (I assume the time travel happens in season five.) |

I guessed Locke shortly before they showed him, but the obit said he had a teenage son. Wonder if we'll find out about that. Ben looked really spooky in that scene, didn't he? |

Ben did look spooky, more intense and like the original Ben we had been introduced to. The name change of Locke and the teeenage son is a new puzzle.
