I'm very interested to learn more about the mysterious Temple. Let's compile all the info we know about it so far.
-If my memory serves me correctly, we first saw the the Temple this season when a time jump left our heroes (mainly Jin) in 1988. -Smokey dragged Montand under the temple, ripping his arm off in the process. -Rousseau's entire team went into the temple to explore, but Jin convinced Rousseau to stay behind. -Jump ahead (or back??) to 1977. Richard takes young Ben to the temple, promising that Ben will never be the same and will lose his innocence. -The first time we visibly see Smokey (and not just hear him) is late in season 1, when he attempts to drag someone (I'm almost positive it was Locke) underground. Perhaps that was the exact same spot where Smokey dragged Montand. For all we know, the Temple may be in ruins by 2004. It could have been destroyed somehow between '88 and '04. That would also explain why the Losties never see the Temple during their exploration of the island. Through Jin's perspective, we see Rousseau killing off her entire team becuse they were "sick." They didn't appear physically sick. Perhaps they were mentally derranged. For argument's sake, we can draw the conclusion that going into that temple did something to them, since Danielle was the only person not affected, and also the only person who didn't go into the temple. When describing these past events back in season 1, I don't recall Rousseau ever making the distinction as to whether her team was physically ill or mentally ill. What inspired her to kill them? Why did she feel they were unfit to live? In the scene on the beach, as she killed the last one off, he did pull a gun on her, but that could be explained by the apparent necessity to kill or be killed. He may have felt that he had to kill her before she killed him. Also, why does she not appear to recognize or remember Jin when she meets him again in 2004? Plus, when retelling this story, she never mentions the odd Korean man who disappeared into thin air and reappeared later on the beach. This doesn't make a strong case for "Whatever happened, happened." |

Very interesting... Smokey probably was dragging Locke to the temple in season 1. But I think the temple is close to the dharmaville and not by the main beach where Locke was dragged... so maybe there is a bunch of underground Smokey corridors that connects to the temple.
So when Smokey drags people underground to the temple are they 'good'? 'Bad' people get smashed? Eko got smashed and not dragged... what gives? |

I don't believe it was destroyed as Ben sent Richard to the temple at the end of S3. In S1 Rousseau did mention they were close to where Montand lost his arm when they hiked to the Black Rock. It was at least a 1/2 days walk from the beach.
Maybe because she thinks she is crazy. She has pobably seen a lot of weird stuff over the years. What is also interesting is the location of the Temple. It has to be near the Orchid station, because the Orchid station was next to the well, which was right above the FDW. Perhaps the Temple can render itself invisible and appear in different locales similiar to Jacob's cabin. What they need is a cyclops to predict where the castle...er temple will appear next. |

I don't think Smokey is interested in judging whether people are good or bad, I think he is interested in judging whether or not people will serve Smokey/the island. Locke: Yes he will serve the island. Ben:Yes, he will serve the island. Eko: Oh no....he will serve God...Eko must die. |
