This is bugging me so much because it doesn't make sense in the timeline. I can't remember which episode it was - I think it was last season's finale - but Walt went to see Hurley in the mental institution and told him JEREMY BENTHAM came to see him and told him everyone had to go back because everyone else was in trouble.

Obviously, Locke didn't tell Walt this when Walt got out of school in NYC, nor did he even tell him his new name is Jeremy Bentham. Plus Walt didn't even seem surprised to see Locke who was one of his closest friends before he was kidnapped on the island.

Is there something I'm missing because this seemed entirely out of whack with what we know or even what we can speculate. Did Locke visit Walt in a dream? Walt did say he was having dreams about Locke. And if he did say this in a dream, was there even enough time before Locke killed himself and Walt visited Hurley? In my understanding of the timeline I would have to say "no."

Can anyone offer some suggestions?

I missed that! You're right though, when did Locke tell Walt he was Jeremy Bentham?

The only thing I can think of is that Walt "just knew" in that Waltish sort of way.

When will Walt re-enter the picture? And how much will his ability to lead birds on collision courses come into play? Which makes me wonder if his ability to make things fall out of the sky extends to all flying things or is limited to just living and breathing flying things.

Just as a thought, this time shift scenario makes it virtually impossible to properly sequence events. I'm sure that was the intent of the writers.

Certainly, to date, John has not communicated any of this information to Walt. However, any future episode can show John visiting Walt again to tell him the story.

We have not seen much of Walt for some time. There has been no indication that he posesses any of the power while off-island. It seems likely he will return at some point, if for nothing else, to find out about his dad.

So far, Walt has been the most disappointing part of the show. In the first season, he seems connected to the future of the show. The bird and other signs. Second season, he talks to Mike on the computer that is not for communication and is seen talking backwards in the jungle.

Now he is an after thought.

I hope they can work him back into the series and fast. Yes he was a bit annoying but he is underdeveloped and deserves a better fate.

And I am going with the "whoops made a mistake" on the name theory.

Walt did exhibit power off island. Back in Australia he caused a bird to fly into a window. At the time we saw it we didn't know yet that Walt was a gifted maker of dead birds.

And I think the dream he mentioned to Locke when they spoke briefly on this past episode, is indication that Walt's powers are alive and well and living in New York.

We will see Walt again. The writers didn't create him for no reason at all and they didn't change their minds about him either...they will use him when the time is right.

I would also love to think that the writers have a master plan for Walt but I don't know if anyone else remembers way back when that the actor who plays Walt wanted off the show to spend more time with his parents. This was all the way back at the end of season one going into season two. This is why Walt wasn't in a lot of season two - the writers did the whole kidnapping thing as an out. I can't remember exactly what was said, but something about the show's success being unexpected and he(Walt) wasn't into it.

Anyway, hopefully he's come back around and wants to be a bigger part of the show. Did anyone see him in the Pop-Tarts/Toaster Strudels commercial? It came on one afternoon and I jumped up and screamed "Waaaaaaaaaaaaalt!" Good times.

I thought for sure the reason Walt was "taken off" the show was because he was aging much faster than the show. However, now he could easily join back in.
