Yep, a pretty good episode..
My main questions were how Ben's face healed so quickly and how the tape on ben's glasses changed between letting Sayid out of the cell and laying in the Others' camp. Okay, picky, picky. I know. The levels of the temple were interesting in that it would seem that one group or another would have explored them over the years. It was also interesting that John let Ben wander through a myriad of hidden doors without following. That was very un-John. Yes, the hint in the shadow of the statue was a great tease. Was that woman on drugs or what? Now we might actually get to find out something about the statue. opps, got to go to work |

It almost makes me wonder if Ilana and a few others from the plane have been to the island before.... |

So now we have the Losties, the Dharmites, the Others/Hostiles & Rousseau who do not explore. *GRRRRRRRR!*
Ah, but that was pseudo-Obi-Locke, who had a vague feeling of specialness, but no knowledge. This is true, back-from-the-dead Obi-Yoda-Locke who really does know everything. No matter what Ben lies about, John knows Ben can't bother him.
Not me - hurling has another day of cooking & feasting. I smell the brownies just finishing........ Island Rules - Funny, but many people have commented on ancient Egyptian themes, Christian themes, and I haven't spotted anything Jewish, until now. What are the Island Rules? Who knows them? Who created them? Who interprets them? Here's what I see: 1-The Island tells the rules to Jacob - this is G-d giving Torah to Moses 2-Jacob tells the rules to the Others - this is Moses giving Torah to the Israelites 3-The Others have dissenting interpretations of the rules - this is the School of Hillel & the School of Shammai. They are the 2 predominant schools of thought in the Mishnah (commentary on Torah), which is the earlier part of the Talmud. (Hillel usually wins - is that Ben?) 4-Locke has own relationship with the island - I don't think this is Gemara (commentary on Mishnah, the later part of the Talmud). I think it's more Kabbalah, mystical, spiritual interpretation. 5-Richard Alpert - he stays off to the side, didn't take part in the argument between Ben & Charles. But he knew who the child Benjamin was, and he knew Locke. I think that makes him Elijah the Prophet, who will announce the Messiah. |

I am relieved that Penny survived the bug-eyed wrath but disappointed that he showed a "flaw" in his evil armor. I guess the best (worst?) have them.

We are assuming that the child Charles fathered off island with an outsider is Penny. It might be that Charles fathered Locke, which would add one more reason Ben is not onboard with Locke as "Leader". It also adds a dimension to Ben's order that Locke kill his father. TMFT was a dry run...Locke failed; Sawyer killed TMFT. It would seem Alpert wasn't concerned that Locke kill "his father". Could be that Alpert knows TMFT wasn't Locke's father, so it was OK for Sawyer to do the deed.
"What lies in the shadow of the statue?" sounded very odd. Stocky next door suggested that it sounded like a recognition code.Ilana asks that question and her contact is supposed to answer, "Red Sox" or whatever... Yes! That is exactly what that sounded like. So if that is right, it is a recognition code, that means that there is a person who has been in place for sometime that works for the same people Ilana works for. I wonder who the mole is? I figure that Ilana's handler is Widmore. A war is acoming. Ben has a soft place in his heart for children. Go figure. I still am wary of Christian and now of Alex too. I am not yet convinced that Ben is a bad guy. I think he is acting in what he believes to be the best interest of the island. There is a McGuffin of the first order on that island. Until I know what it is, I can't be sure whose motives are good and whose motives are bad. Smokey doesn't pass through water. |

I think that Ben thinks Smoly can't pass through water. In reality, it is a moot point. Ben's little hole is meaningless given that Smoky has the hole next to the wall in the ruins to escape from. I continue to wonder about the aging thing. Ben clearly aged on the island. Widmore clearly aged (lots) on the island. But both left the island on numerous occasions, yet Ben was aging before he began leaving the island. Other Others don't seem to age as much. And Richard doesn't age at all. I like Hurling's comparison between Richard and Elijah. Always the best man, never the groom. When I heard the "shadow of the statue" deal, my thought was not of a recognition code, but more of a brainwashed thing. It was almost like the woman had been mind washed and a "friends of the statue" kernal inserted into her brain. That will be an interesting thread. |
