I think it is entirely possible that 1/2 of the lostaways know why they are on the island, and the other 1/2 do not.
For example...1/2 are there to moderate the experiment, make sure no one gets hurt or kills. As for those hurt and killed already, maybe they weren't really, just excused from the experiment.
Libby watches Hurley - Rose watches Bernard - Sawyer watches Kate - etc.
Just a thought, would welcome other speculation on the same topic.
Could be, but it's more likely to be 1/11 know 10/11 don't. I base this on my experience with chaperoning school trips. We have to bring 1 adult chaperone for every 10 students. Maybe 1/4 and 3/4, but I think 1 "watcher" for each "subject" is a bit much.
The difficulty with the concept of there being observers or moderators of an experiment is that the results of any social experiment or the observation of people is influenced by the observer's presence and so skews the results. So unless Sawyer (for instance) is there to specifically antagonize the losties, it is unlikely any of the Losties are planted by TPTB.
