As I was watching the "Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham" I wondered if Charles Widmore even wants to get back to the island.

I believe that he has had a couple of opportunities.

1. Abaddon mentioned that he suggested that John Locke go on a walkabout. Thus eventually leading him to flight 815. Eloise Hawking and her equipment can determine when the island is visible. We know that Widmore is connected to Hawking because he told Desmond where to find her. So if Hawking told Widmore who told Abbadon who told Locke to be on 815 then Widmore had to know that 815 was a path to the island. Why then was he not on 815?

2. Widmore sends a freighter to find the island. Presumably the location became apparent after Desmond turned the sky purple. The freighter sends Naomi and co. to the island. Then they send the Keemy and the A-Team to take Ben off the island. If they have successfully penetrated the island's invisible wall, why didn't Widmore fly to the freighter and go to the island? Opportunity #2 missed.

Why wouldn't Widmore want to go back at the first opportunity to "His People"?

exactly; he had the way and the means to get to the island so why didn't he go back?

I think there's a price on his head on the island. So before he can return he has to get rid of the people who want him dead and considering the Lostees don't give a rat's ass about him, that means the Other's are the threat to him.

Theoldred, I think you make some good points here. The only thing I'd take issue with is your assumption that because Widmore knows about Hawking and where to find her that that necessarily means that he works with her or she with him. That might turn out to be the case, but we don't know that as of now.

I should also have mentioned that, if it's true (as many suspect) that Eloise Hawking is the grown up young Ellie who was on the island back in 1954, it's kind of doubtful that she and Widmore are working together in the present. The two of them didn't seem too fond of each other back then. So either they have made amends after leaving the island and are working together, or they know of each other but are not working together.
