Now we know how Lost will end.

Oceanic 815 was seized in mid-air by Romulans and dropped on another planet, trapped in a time warp and will be rescued by Kirk and Spock in the 23rd (one of the numbers) century...

This brings up a topic Mrs. Nemo and I have been discussing lately: Mission Impossible III.

On one hand, we feel the need to support JJ in his feature film directing debut, yet we feel bad about supporting Tom Cruise and all his "baggage."

I didn't care for either of the first two MIs (partly because they were not in the true MI mold, where a group of operatives con the bad guys). It has ended up being a "James Bond on crack" series, whereas I would like to see more of the subtle manipulation that characterized the old (and new) MI TV series.

However, we love Alias and Lost, so we assume that MI3 will be better than the first two.

What to do, what to do...? Smiler

Aintitcool.com has a review of MI3. They pretty much say J.J. with the big toys has made the coolest action flick since True Lies. Then again, they said Hostel was the scariest movie in a decade.

CaptNemo, my husband was teasing me about the same thing. I have to say, though, that as much as I appreciate what JJ Abrams has done w/Lost, I would choke if I put $$$ into Tom Cruise's pocket. These days I can't believe that I saw Top Gun nine times...but I was young & foolish in those days... Wink

I never saw Top Gun cos I always thought Tom Cruise was a conceited twerp. But my karate school is named Top Gun, so I finally watched it on TV last year. All I can say is, "What a conceited twerp!" I know that's redundant, but it's the only phrase that comes to mind. Immediately. His character was so stupid. I can't believe he was supposed to be a hero. I sincerely hope that every place in this country that is named Top Gun (there are at least a dozen unrelated martial arts schools) is named for the actual flight school and not that horrible movie.

Big Grin

Aside from his non-acting activities, Tom Cruise's movie characters are pretty much w/o exception nothing more than the everyday role of Tom Cruise that the pod person he is underneath plays (does that make sense?). Now that I'm older & (marginally) wiser, I'd much rather watch an actor who actually portrays the character in the movie, not an actor who portrays the character as himself.

As far as Tom Cruise being hot, well, we could start an entire thread on who's hot & who's not in the acting universe, but that conversation might fit better under LordFoul's Hot or Not on Lost thread (see, I'm being good & trying to not start new threads). Wink

I concur. Conceited and also smug. And self righteous. Oh, and sanctimonious too.
