Ok, S.O.S. didn't give us much to debate this week, so here's my next theory.
It just so happens that the power that dear old Doc Isaac was trying to harness was from Ayers Rock (a.k.a ULURU), a known Ley Line site. Ley Lines are alignments of holy sites which upon intersecting, create “energy”, or as some voodoo-hoodoo’s put it – magnetic forces. Could it be that the hatches could be the magnetron built to “harness” this power, as Isaac could? This is also fitting with the idea that the island's magnetism was already there, well before the Others and the Losties. Another interesting thing to note is that this is usually an occult belief (fostering the idea that the Others seem so “cult-y”) but is also of some interest to scientists. In fact, Seattle hired a New Age group to do Ley Lines of the city, and this was their synopsis: The vision of the Seattle Ley-Line Project is to heal the Earth energies within the Seattle city limits by identifying ley-line power centers in Seattle, neutralizing negative energies and then amplifying the positive potential of the ley-line power centers. We believe the result will be a decrease in disease and anxiety, an increased sense of wholeness and well-being and the achievement of Seattle's potential as a center of power for good on Spaceship Earth. *snicker* So, who knows. Maybe, Maybe not. |

It is certainly a fair guess and definately more interesting than some of the other theories out there.
Nice one. |

From http://www.deepinfo.com/WorldGrid.htm Somewhere on this message board, someone mapped out the approximate location of Isla de Encanta. I'll be they match up fairly closely. |

So, it's final. Rose knows (or thinks), as well as Locke, that the island has healing powers. Rose does not want to leave the island, and I doubt that Locke does either. Walt said he burned the raft down because he "liked it there". Maybe that's what the others are...Maybe they like the island for some reason and want to stay there......And another thing, from the season 1 finale...where did the others get a boat?

www.boats.com They deliver to remote, deserted islands |

I'm pretty certain, though, that Walt changed his mind & wanted off the island after he realized that Locke was going to go through w/opening the hatch. |

Is Seattle still the suicide center of the United States? That looks like some of the silliness I lived through in Berkeley. It is also among the reasons I tend to vote Republican. On the other hand, the theory as it applies to the island is as good as any. Maybe the losties have stumbled onto a center of power for good in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. |

So how does that fit in with Danielle's group all getting sick enough that she needed to kill them? Or is it that (haha I'm veering way off topic now) their sickness was in wanting to stay on the island and create a settlement there and she got the fever Bernard had this week of "get up and do something you crazy bohemians" that ended with her getting Anna-Lucia-ish trigger-happy? Nah, probably not. |

But maybe their "sickness" was wanting to get off the island when Rousseau wanted to stay? What if Locke had come across Bernard when it still looked like the whole SOS signal was going forward? WWLD? (What Would Locke Do; really What Would Locke Have Done, but that lacks something; OK, it actually has an extra letter, but...) |

But Locke didn't burn the raft. Maybe he knows the island won't LET them leave.

Wow, that's hilarious. I've lived in Seatlle for all my 22 years, and I have never heard about this. How odd! I don't think that Seattle has the highest suicide rate. I think that ended with grunge era, but I could be wrong. I do know that Seattle is currently the most educated city in the country with over 90% of adults being high school graduates and over 50% holding a bachelor's degree. Anyway, it's a good theory about the show. Seems to hold up so far! |

WWLD? Well, he did attack Sayid early in Season 1 and destroy their attempts at a transmitter. |

Ley lines were brought up last season. It's a good theory, but not new.
