Hi - this is my first post although i've been reading these for a while. Here is what I have been wondering about re: Claire and her baby. The general consensus seems to be that Claire's baby is not actually the child wanted by the 'others', but that the 'others' really want Walt. Although i think it's obvious that the 'others' do want Walt (since they took him from the raft and all) there still must be some signifigance to Claire's baby. First, the psychic put her on that plane because he wanted her to raise the child herself, right? and he made it pretty clear that if she didn't raise the child herself, something really horrible would occur. Second, Ethan kidnapped Claire, not Walt. Are we supposed to believe that he made a mistake about which child the 'others' wanted?
I realize this isn't really addressed in the latest episodes, but I've been thinking about it ever since the 'others' got Walt and wonder if you all have any thoughts on the matter?

My take on Ethan kidnapping Claire is that he was connected with Rousseau and perhaps did make a mistake in thinking that the 'child' the Others wanted would be the newborn or he heard the whispers saying they were coming for 'the child' - I have seen nothing really to convince me that Ethan was an 'Other.'

I agree, however, that the baby absolutely is important. If nothing else, he signifies the new life that Locke preaches for the survivors to begin... a ressurection of sorts.

Ethan may not have been an Other but he def wasn't part of Jack's flight. Remember Hurley in Season 1 was going around making a list . It was revealed that Ethan wasn't on their plane, so he had to have been already there. Maybe Ethan was kidnapping baby for the French woman.Claires baby is def a symbol of a new start/group.like Locke mentioned.
